| I am planning on getting a C50 in a couple of weeks and I live in California. What smog equipment comes on a California bike vs. everywhere else and is there much of a power loss if any? I will be moving to Florida in 2 to 3 months but I would rather not wait until I move there to get my bike. And I was curious if I could just remove the extra smog equipment once I move to Florida or would that be illegal?

| I'm sure it's not what you want to hear, but if you're moving in only 3 months, wait until you're in Florida to buy a bike. I don't know exactly what extra smog stuff a California bike has, but it'll probably cost more, have less power, get poorer mileage, and if you need service in Florida, the mechanic isn't going to know anything about CA smog equipment (trust me on that one - I had a heck of a time getting a CA smog-equipped car fixed in Tennessee). The mechanic had never seen one and had no idea how to work on the fuel system. As for the legality of removing the extra stuff, it's certainly illegal. Even removing the PAIR valve, which a lot of us have done, is illegal. Of course, so is doing anything to make your bike louder than it came from the factory.

| Buy the C50, park it and walk. The pair valve is mounted on the left of your engine and adds air into your exchaust, to reduce emmissions. It does not aid performance. Smooth riding, no twisting the throttle to dust the Mustang, no roaring up to stops, slamming on the brakes at the last minute. No roaring thru the curves. Drive like an old man. Wait a minute, I am an old man, and my mileage sucks. |
