Unhappy Timing Marks

Hi...I have a question about lining up the timing marks for a 1967 Suzuki X 6 Hustler...I put in new condensers and points and cannot get the timing marks to line up...bought a timing gauge but am unsure how to use it...it screws into the spark plug holes and then what???Turn the crankshaft to the designated TDC specs? And is there a way to manually line up the timing marks by turning the what???Stator I guess anyway really need some help here from one of you GURUS...Marla

I have a '73 Suzuki GT750 3cyl 2stroke and the points are mounted to a plate, the points are adjusted for each cylinder and then the timing is set for each cylinder. The left cylinder is adjusted by moving the whole mounting plate, the points for the center & right cylinder are mounted to sub plates so they are adjusted to the corrrect setting. I have used the dial indicator to set the timing and then used a timing light to check each cylinder and they were dead on. I know yours is a twin cylinder but this is just some info to get some idea of what you need to do. Here's a link that shows the GT750 points setup:

It's a pic of the GT750 setup, just trying to see if it looks anything like your points setup. Can you post a closeup pic of your points setup?

Thas a good looking bike!!!!

Default Timing

Hi...thanks for getting back to me...the diagrams of your bike are great...I bought a used flywheel and attached stater from ebay yesterday...it comes complete and I can see if I made a mistake in putting in the new points and condensers...hope so anyway as this is getting kinda frustrating...Marla

What kind of problem are you having? Will the engine run? It looks like the point gap is to wide on the right hand point set, what did you set it at?

Default Timing

Hi...again...the points are kinda not set at this time...I set them at 12-14...what the books says at any rate but now like I said they are not set...I am waiting for the used stator to arrive and I think I will connect this used one and see what happens as far as the bike starting no it will not even fire up when I set the correct point gaps I cannot get the timing scores to line up...you know red versus blue and all that jazz...I noticed you had a photo of a timing gauge in the spark plug hole on the pages you sent...you have used one of these gauges and since I did not get any instructions with the gauge I bought...NATURALLY...in this photo I inserted can you tell me how to read it?I know what the book says on what the parameters are but how do you read the freaking gauge? It has a big dial and an inserted small dial and I cannot figure it out...you should be charging me an hourly rate for all the work I have put you thruLove you YES Marla.

I will need to search my files for info on how to use the gauge, it's hard for me to explain how. Where did you find that org Suzuki gauge? The one that I have is homemade but it works!
