Default 27yrs old puts me here

this is my 1981 yamaha maxim xj550...

it was black when i bought it in 1992. i rode it until i got out of the Air Force and brought it home. i painted it over the winter of 1994-1995 and then parked it. its really too small for me and especially too small for my wife and i...

i was pressured into getting it going again last summer and i got lots of elbow grease expended in cleaning it and then some mechanical on the carbs. it wouldnt fire off so i took it to a shop. they did a little tweaking and got it running. i did the fork seals at that time...

this baby runs really well and got me 44 mpg on a recent 86 mile ride with speeds from 45-85 mph...

d

as it sat in the garage last august while i cleaned it up

Nice old bike. I loved my 84 gpz 750 which I had up until a couple of years back. It probably wouldn't sell for much so if I were you, I'd keep it. Though I'd like to find something like that for my son to start out on. Easier to work on than the ones nowadays...

my wife, who after 12 years of telling me "NO" when i asked if she wants to learn to ride just recently said, "maybe I should learn to ride it."...

i had quite asking her and decided to loan the bike to my buddy from as far back as kindergarten who had the exact bike when he was in the Marines. ya know the Air Force has to provide CAS for the groundpounders

so, when the summer is over, ill teach her real quickly and then see if i can talk her into letting us get a new PAIR of bikes....

Buzzzzz,,, wrong answer.

The correct answer.

I love my wife, so I will sign her up for the nearest Motorcycle Safety Foundation, Beginner's Riding Course.

Sorry! If I didn't say it, you can be sure someone else would have.

Oh, and that old Maxim does indeed look good. I'd put some superbike bars on it though !
