| Newbie | I don't know what happened...... I let my dad ride my bike and he left the choke on for 20 miles..... he turned off the gas, but left on the choke. I started it up and its fine, until I put it on run. It idles ok, until I give it a little gas, then the rpm starts reving (on its own). it stops at 3000. I can use the idle control to make it rev higher, but not lower. It runs ok (about 1200 rpm), if I give it more gas with the choke (about a 1/4 of the way back to choke). I just need to know if I can fix this or if I'll have to take it to the shop. I turned the idle up slightly about 4 weeks ago, but its been fine until my dad rode it. I thought maybe bad gas, but its still pretty new, or maybe a stuck float.... Thanks...... Last edited by jarrado; 10-20-2007 at 06:50 PM. |

| If you have to ask, then the answer is probably no. ![]() Sounds to me like a sticky throttle mechanism or cable, or a sticky choke (enricher) mechanism or cable. If neither of those pans out, then it's probably time for a visit to the shop. And the ride your Dad took likely had NOTHING to do with it.

| If the bike is ride able, then run some kind of good carb cleaner through the gas tank for a couple of tanks and see if that takes care of it. If not, you will most likely need to have the carbs cleaned out. If you are uncomfortable doing the job and you are close to me, I can do the job for you or if you want, you can pll the carbs and send them to me. My info is in my signature

| Newbie | I'm not so sure the bike is running lean any more. I had a talk with my uncle who is a mechanic in the army (and carbs specialist..lol), he doesn't think its the carbs, cuz it was running smooth beforehand, unless I did something...>_>. I was going to let him have a look, but he can't get to it till next week..... or later... So I decided to at least look for obvious stuff, as soon as I get some time off work. I've worked on some cars, not carbs, but I think I can handle this.... unless its the carbs, then I'll let my uncle do it. I wanted to know more about the choke and throttle cables.... should I take them out and clean like the manual says or check for slack/play.....??? EDIT: forgot to mention.... my bike has 20000 miles on it. It was at a dealer at 17000 4 months ago. The guy I bought it from was a frenchie who put 3000 miles on it...lol.... cost me 3100. Here's a pic....My CBR Anyway, I figured that a dealer would clean/inspect/sync the carbs, since they put new tires/stickers.....etc... on it... ![]() Also, I noticed that when I move the choke.... its easy, but then it gets hard towards the end. Is that normal? -Jared Last edited by jarrado; 10-22-2007 at 08:39 PM. |

| Newbie | Update guys...... I really am a newb....lol Turns out I've been riding with the choke on....lol.... the way te choke is labeled is confusing. The chke symbol is at the top, but choke is down. I didn't think about the arrow thats points down....>_>. But..... thank god..... there was a problem with the mixture, the dealer guys screwed it up BAD..... now it has more power than before.... so yeah partially my fault, but now I have more power.....
