Default Question about a 1999 CBR 900rr

I'm looking at buying one from this guy that's posted it on craigslist. I got him down to $1500 from $2000, nothing confirmed though because I haven't seen it in person yet. It's got 32K miles... and it's been "converted" to a naked bike.

1) Is it worth that much?
2) How much would it cost to restore it to a fully faired beauty?
3) If/when I go take a look at it, what should I look out for?

This would be my 3rd bike... my first bike was a '94 Honda Magna (vf750), second bike was a '97 Triumph Trident 900... I'm thinking it's about time for a "sportbike"...but I don't want to pay big money for one Any input is greatly appreciated

1) Can't say without much more information, though most bikes that run well are worth at least that.
2) Too much. Buy a faired one if that's what you want.
3) Crash damage. That's the #1 reason for going naked. Also, maintenance records. 32k isn't a lot unless it's been neglected.

If $1500 is your budget, options may be limited.

Any hints with what to look for? I had assumed that a conversion like that on this type of bike meant some kind of accident, but how do you tell if it doesn't have the front plastics? In the pics the paint on the tank and rear section looks pretty good so that doesn't help.

Say if I was insane and wanted to restore one day, what more would it need apart from the appropriate plastics from ebay and headlight and top fairing stay/mount?

Thanks for the input rowdy.

Having not owned a full-fairing bike, I'm not sure how the plastic mounts. On my bike, there are some stays required. You'll have to shop Ron Ayers Motorsports or someone to find that out, unless someone here can help.

See my avatar.

$2,000 for a 99 with a clean title is cheap!
