I'm faced with a tough decision. I want a Burgman and I can have one for $8000 (CDN), but I don't know which? The AN400 is new, has less power but both back rests and a better fuel consumption. The AN650 is a 2003 model with 3800 km on it, only 4 month of warranty remaining. It has more power, more speed, but I have to pay extra for passenger back rest and the fuel consumption is higher, so the cruising range is lower.
What would you do?

Are you a solo rider or 2-up?

I've had no problems with the 650 and Not going for the extended warrenty. If you want it, you can still purchase the extended warrenty up to 1 year from new.

As of now I ride a Savage and the single issue is the 2 up capability. I was looking at the Burgman as a 2 up solution. I do not do extended highway (over 60 mph traffic speed) trips, but I like to travel in confort for a few hundred miles without back problames (especially for my wife)
and be capable of carrying light luggages.

I would recommend the 650, not because I have one but because I have owned both. My back is not the healthiest and @ 52 yrs old, ride comfort is important. Last May, after a 25 yr absence from bikes, well the kids were gone, so we got back into it. We started with the 400 to see if we could still deal with the riding like we used to. 400 is fine for power 2-up, but I was not comfortable running the RPM's @ 6,000 RPM crusing on a main road. we found if the ride was better we could go 2 hrs without a break.
The ride was ok for a bike with tires that size. After 3,000 miles I drove a 650. we traded the 400 in for it. No going back for me, the ride is much better, it handles crosswinds much better, and the power is nice, 4,000 RPM at 63 indicated.

Properly maintained this should go 60,000 miles. Very nicely equipped ones are showing up with 600-4,000 miles on them, mainly because of medical conditions of their previous owners.

Actually, ion54, the range of both bikes is quite similar, as the gas tank on the 400 is .6/gal smaller.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm going to see the dealer. I'll go for 650 if is it still available. I'm 50 young, so the back may become a problem for me too.
This will bring up another issue. Who wants my "old", stock, 2003 Savage with 5200 km on it?

I solved my dilema - I bought a Honda Pacific Coast. It is almost as nice and good as a Burgman and it was much cheaper.
My Savage is still for sale.

Yes, the very old one. It may be plastic-y but I love the weather protection and the large trunk. And did I mention it was way cheaper?

consider an Aprilia Atlantic 500. the back problem is solved by a $0.99 beach ball under the $29.99 sheepskin...it is like a 98-103 mph Baraclounger...

By the way what kind of top speeds are you getting (AA500 handles real nice at 85-90 mph)

I have a AN650-K3.

It really depends on if your talking "indicated or actual". Indicated some have gone to 115 mph. I have gone 2 up all day @ 85 "indicated" with room for more.
Indicated it typically 10% high. so 111 - 10% = 100, 66 indicated = about 60, etc. Most bikes are off, mine was verified using a "GPS" and a cops radar, Indicated 79, he got me @ 71.
My son's GSXR 600 reads about the same as mine.
A Harley is pretty close to being on.

New and old tires and vary that by up to 2%

Long time no see! Sorry for missing so many posts. I was to visit my folks in Romania and spent few moths with them.
Honda can get easy at 75 - 80 mph and stay there for good. There is extra power left to get you to top speed (about 100 mph).
The speedo is accurate within 3 mph when compared with my car, and my car was clocked with the police radar recently (125 km/h clocked and indicated by my speedo) which cost me some money.
My main complain is the lack of the sixth gear which will improve the mileage.
