Default Ulysses

I went over the the local H-D / Buell dealer to get my free hat. One bike really impressed me, and it wasn't a cruiser - it was the Ulysses XB12X. I've seen articles about it, but seeing it in person is very nice. What a sweet bike with great ergos. The passenger accomodations, backrest, and luggage are very nice.

Consider yourself lucky. The salesmen I've spoke with say they are a very elusive creature. They're sold as soon as they hit the floor.

The Uly is really catching on here in the states. Almost everywhere else you go, especially Europe, the Uly is a big hit. They seem to be much more into adventure bikes than Americans. That said, be prepared for a very high seat height. Other than that, the bike has everything you would want out of a daily commuter...well, almost. The fuell economy out the the 1203 is horrendous. If you poke around everywhere you go, you are looking at about 34mph, but if you actually ride the thing like it's supposed to be, it's closer to about 28-30mpg.

Buell claims 51 mpg city and 64 mpg highway for the Ulyesses. Now I'll have to wait until I get home and check what Motorcycle Consumer says about mileage in their tests. 51 mpg would be nice, 30 mpg sucks. It would not be a first for a vehicle make to stretch the truth...

I did like the seat height! ...and the free hat too.

All gas consumption claims by factories are always way over estimated. The bikes are run VERY easy and unrealistically to find these numbers. I am willing to bet highway you can get atleast 40. As for city and if you have a heavy throttle hand, like mine, then it's closer to 30. I like the sound of the exhaust and the feel of the torque too much not to.

64mpg highway for a bike rated at 103hp and 80+ ft lbs or torque does seem a little stretched...

I'm window shopping now, it will be a couple years before I worry about picking up another bike. Maybe there will be a few used Ulys around by then.
