Used S50..

I found two used S50s in two different local dealers.

Dealer A : model year 2005, mileage : 6000, OTD price : 43xx + tax +DMV fee.
Dealer B : model year 2005, mileage : 3xxxx, OTD price : 4999 + tax + DMV fee.

Are these two bikes worth to buy? which one is better?

one of the dealers told me the S50 will be out of production soon, is that true?

I would suggest you go to kbb.com and check the price for your area. Both of those sound like pretty decent prices though. My dad bought a 2005 C50 last week with windshield and sissy bar. It had 3000 miles and he payed 5500.

Assuming that there is a typo in the second mileage (SB 3,xxx)..........
I'd lean toward the first one because 3K miles in 3 years might mean that it isn't even broken in good yet.

This also assumes that both are in excellent condition and neither has been F'd with a lot. You're gonna have to look at both.

The S50 and S83 are both legacy models, virtually unchanged from the 1990s. Both are great bikes, with the S50 in particular being absolutely bulletproof and nearly trouble-free. Heck, I put 135,000 on my first one, and have 64,000+ and counting on my second one. But because the technology is old and the styling is so different from the new bikes coming out now, Suzuki has expressed a desire to discontinue both and replace them with one or two new models. But I believe both are still in the Suzuki lineup for 2009.

What's your location?

As far as which of the two bikes is better it depends on service history.

Make sure the 600 mile service was done and on the 6000 mile bike, the valves should have been inspected/adjusted at 4000 miles

I think I would look around a little more. I paid $5700 in September 07 for a brand new 2007 S50. I wish I had bought it somewhere besides the Eau Claire Wi. dealer, but that's another story.

Although I traded my '06 S50 in on a bigger bike (an '08 Yamaha 1300T), I rode it 6,500 trouble-free miles, often 2-up with my wife, in less than 2 years. I purchased the S50 new in August, 2006 for $5,999.

I live in Silicon Valley, and I check craigslist when I have time to go online.
But there are very few 'want to sale' messages of S50 on SF area.
And I don't want to drive far away to check out the bike(within 100 miles).

I think if a dealer has a new bike on his showroom floor, he might have stress to sale it ASAP. But I don't see any new S50 around 5 local dealers. That's why I could not get better OTD price on new S50.

They gave me more than $7000 on buying new S50(at least 2 dealers told me).

I feel kind of frustrated, since I heard lots of S50 buyers here who paid less than $6000.

The Honda dealer near my place looks more friendly to me. I 'v been there several times, check out the Honda shadow spirit 750 C2(they have 2 C2 with different color). The most important thing is they gave me reasonable price on C2(OTD price under MSRP).

I think I will look around more on new or used S50, or may be I will get the C2 some day.

The biggest difference with the S50 vs. the Honda you're looking at will be handling and power.
The S50 is the most nimble, maneuverable and fastest mid size V-Twin available. It will outrun many bigger bikes.
It is without a doubt the only cruiser I want to own.

If you hang around a little longer I may be selling my S50 - and who knows - maybe I could even talk the wife into a trip south to bring it down!

I was going to sell it right away, (bought a 2007 Bandit) but I rode it last night and it left me undecided if I was going to keep the S50 or the Bandit.
I need more time on the Bandit to decide which bike is right for me, but I can honestly say the S50 handles better right now!

LOL! I bought a harley FLH years ago, but I still hung onto my VS800, as the acceleration, nimbleness, and handling made it just too much fun to sell. It finally died at 135,000 miles...and I bought another one just like it! I now have four bikes, but the VS800 still is a favorite in my heart.

Do not use KBB use NADA, that is what the banks will use on the loan amount.

The banks actually do not use either- they have their own version of NADA, different from the consumer version. But you are right in that the consumer version of the NADA is closer to what the banks have than the consumer version of KBB.

I bought my S50, my first bike this spring from a local person on craigslist. I bought a 2006 model with only 230 miles, $5000. Absolutely perfect condition. Even came with a $200 engine guard and extended warranty.

Today I finally closed a deal on a 2006 S50 with 5000 OTD in a local dealership.
This bike is grey with 3000 miles on it, and it comes with saddle bag and sissy bar.

The price is a little bit higher than my expectation, but I'v tested ride and love it. the engine sounds good, and the overall conditions are great.

One more thing to consider, the dealer gave me an "Extended Mechanical Protection" plan of $650 for 24 months. This plan is from Western Service Contract Copr. Is it worth to buy? Is this plan accepted by all(or most of) dealers? Does any one buy such plan on an used bike?

Ridig a heavey motrocycle was my dream since 18, but lived in Taiwan for more than 40 years, there are too many people too much traffic and also too much money to get an imported heavy motorcycle(A HD sportster 833 costs $20,000).

I choosed S50 as my first bike, and hope someday I will have the chance to own a heavyweight cruiser. Like M109R/Mean streak or maybe a Harley.
