Good luck!

Edit: Just got excited, okay you're transforming it into a cafe racer.

Hey I've got a friend with a GS650 Engine and he's looking for a drag bike frame for it!

Thanks, man. The jets, carb tuning, air filter and exhaust upgrades did wonders for the power. All the roads I ride on, like to work and back, have a speed limit of 65mph. Of course everyone does 75mph on them. I disconnected the speedo and don't worry about it anymore. I just ride with the traffic and have no problem keeping up and passing when needed.

A few things I've noticed between it and the M. The S40 is a lot more sensitive to being in the right gear. The M you could keep in 5th and still have power coming out of a turn at 35mph. Not the S40. You have to downshift a gear or two. However, 5th gear is much taller than the M and more of a joy to ride at highway speeds. On the M, if you're doing 60mph and let off the throttle, the bike's tranny fought back. It's much smoother on the S. If you let off the throttle at 60mph, you simply cruise without the tranny drag. Shifting is a lot smoother on the S. But then again, the clutch and tranny are beefier on the M. All in all, the S is more fun to ride stoplight to stoplight and up to about 75mph. The M is more fun to ride over 75mph. The M has a MUCH better suspension. Washboard bumps on the gravel driveway were smooth on the M. On the S my eyeballs rattle.

I drive the same speed in every turn and every straight road as I did with the M, even when I was aggressive with it. That hasn't changed a bit. For those who have and M or a C and wish they had a bigger bike... you are spoiled. Some will flame me for that comment. The S will do everything the M and C will do, except with them you have a lot more of everything- room, power, torque, etc.

Good looking bike and impressive performance, DJ. So what's next? Any mods planned on the M50?

[BTW, didn't mean to hijack the thread with my comments to Geoff's cafe racer]

Wasn't that your wife's bike? Is she still riding?

Yep, my wife bought it new this summer. Turns out she doesn't ride very much. I sold my M50 about a month ago. I had planned on adding a few $$$ to what I got for the M50 and buy another bike. But then I decided to use the money to pay off credit cards and get another bike after Christmas and she gave me her bike. I told her I had to make a few changes to the bike though. So I've cleaned up the rear, did the seat mod, forward controls, bars, performance mods, etc. The S40 is pretty plain as is. But it's so incredibly easy to mod. It's a dream bike for a modder. Everything is metal. Parts are available and cheap cause the bike has been around for so long. It can't ride comfortably at 85mph on the interstate. But around town it's a blast. I've come to realize that no matter what I get next, I'm not letting this baby go.

I did a 200 mile ride today. Beautiful day for riding. All was well except the bolt that goes through the top of the mirror stem into the back of the mirror housing broke off.

Look, no mirrors.

Do you see the new mirror?

I'm amazed at how much I can see behind me with this mirror in this position. One of my other ones broke earlier today. I had this one laying around so I thought I'd try this setup.

You're one of those guys who took toys apart as a kid just to see how they worked aren't you?

LOL

I'd give my left _______ to have 1/2 of that mechanical know-how.

Keep tinkerin, you've only got 5 months of winter ahead of you.

LMAO! I'd give my right ______ for a plasma cutter!

And I still take crap apart to make it better. It pisses the wife off. But every once in a while I hit a home run so it keeps just enough peace that she doesn't divorce me.

With new saddlebags and went with a bar-end mirror.

A few weeks ago I installed a LED cat eye tail/brake light. I like it except that when I brake it only got marginally brighter. Yes, it was more noticeable, but I wanted more. So I installed this waterproof flexible LED strip and made a 3/4 ring around the tail light. Now, when I brake, the cat eye light doesn't change but the LED ring lights up. Much better now.

No brake:
