Post Break-in

So I've read the Break-In Secrets at Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power
and I'm positive this has been discussed a million times. I still would like to ask your opinion and experience on break-in methods, i.e. following the manual or the suggestions at the link above.

Being an engineer myself and having operated very large marine engines for a decade, those guidelines sound risky. I've followed the operating instructions after each overhaul (rebuilt) which was essentially gradual increase in loading the engine.

looking forward to reading your comments. (I'm gonna get a brand new C50 soon)
