so you want the engine to run slower because you are afraid of "wearing it out"

it's a wonderful argument, and under certain circumstances, I might even agree with you.

but not on this one.

If you wanted it cruise (say 80, with a good radar detector) changing the rear gear might be a good idea.

But this particular engine (I'm going out on a limb here, but as that limb says "rated 3 ton" the risk is minimal) has to be built like an anvil.

Just think, for guys such as yourself, who don't race it, don't drive it like you stole it, don't put nitrous on it, - etc, etc, etc,

well, your engine is meant to sing at a certain speed, all engines are built this way. If it sings (harmonious) at 4600, go with it, the bike may go further than you ever could have imagined.

If somebody told me 9 years ago, the old xs 850 that had 9 k on the clock for the whopping princely sum of 9 bills was going to be with me 53 k later with only a few minor (irritating but minor) problems while going down the highway at 5 k, a funny look would have been the least of my expressions.

but such is the case.

people want whatever they don't have.

That's true, I've said many times that the only reason for shifting the 1250 Bandit is so I don't get out of practice, I can run it all the way down to 1500 rpm in 6th gear (30 mph) and it will still pull clean without any hint of a ping or a chudder even if I wack it wide open, I've never ridden any other bike that could do that, even the Triumph Rocket 3 I had that has over 100 foot pounds of torque at 1800 rpm couldn't do it without a slight bog.

shudder, no c in shudder.

which is response I got when drinking pabst one time, his significant other just "shuddered" when I said pabst is good stuff.

the bike probably doesn't bog because it's FI. Kinda cuts down on that "bogging" stuff which is "dumping a quart of fuel in 3 seconds and there ain't no air to go with it."

but 1500 rpm @ 30, and it still accelerates, I am impressed.

Yep, but I wasn't spelling shudder, and yes I know that chudder isn't the correct spelling, but it has been kind of bastardised from the word Judder, or at least that's how I've seen it spelled on some other forums when it came to describing a high speed vibration or oscillation that is slightly unbalanced.

I'm sure the FI is a part of the reason, but it's not the whole answer, I have other FI bikes that won't even come close to being able to lug like the Bandit does, this thing is about as close to duplicating what an elect motor can do as you can get from an internal combustion engine.

Smooth operation and longevity are only two factors. There's also fuel economy (may be negligible), and heat generation (not much of a factor at speed).

Really, it's just a matter of perception. When on Rick's bike, things just felt more relaxed.

or leinenkugel.........if the beer doesn't taste a little bit like malt liquor, I really don't care to drink it anymore.

and when I go to the club, nobody else wants the pbr.

it doesn't surprise me the bike has a chudder or a slight hiccup under the right conditions. Or wrong conditions as the case may be.

so it's silky smooth virtually all of the time?

and I really hate coors; or any coors product, would rather drink vodka martinis.

I once drank old milwaukee at a golf benefit. I didn't exactly care for it but for the town I was in and I was with college friends, it felt like the proper thing to do.
