Help! I spent all last week riding in a deluge of rain here in central Georgia (I commute on my '07 1250S). All of a sudden, my headlight started to fail intermittently (dangerous on wet, dark roads!). It eventually quit altogether, high beam and low beam (the "running lights" on the side still work, as do all turn signals and brake lights). I figured maybe some water had gotten in there somewhere, so I pulled the plug out of the high beam bulb (which is on the bottom) and smeared it with dielectric grease. No help. So, I brought it to my favorite service guy. He started testing the electrical system. He calls back with "bad news," saying that there is no power between the ECU and the headlight. He finds no problem with the switch, the plug, etc. Instead, he's suspecting that maybe the ECU is damaged somehow, or maybe there is a problem at the point of the wiring harness. If so, he tells me, it's going to be a VERY EXPENSIVE repair, because he's thinking he might have to replace the ECU and/or the harness!!!! Does this sound logical to anyone? I figured that if the ECU is damaged, the bike wouldn't be ride-able, because it would effect the fuel injection...wouldn't it? I've always trusted this guy, but I'm worried that a ripoff may be imminent. Has anyone else ever had a problem with an intermittently failing headlight? At first, it would come on only when the bike was in motion. Then, it failed altogether. I hope someone can come up with a brilliant, CHEAP solution and spare me lots of time and dough!! Thanks, all! |
