@Clint - Ouch.

In Europe, it's illegal to remove anything related to the emissions system. If your bike has a catalytic converter, so do all of the after-market products which are certified (and registered for use) with your bike. My bike is 6 years old ... and I had my first "official" inspection in spring this year. It's mostly a safety inspection (checking that the bike is in good working order, the brakes and lighting work, and the tires aren't worn or cracked), but they also take it for a short test ride. If you don't have the right papers for the exhaust (the inspector checked my pipes for the CE-imprint, even though I've got the original equipment exhaust), you don't get the stamp, and you have to come back for a re-inspection. If the bike is too loud, they'll drag out the dB meter and test it on the spot. Too loud = FAIL.

Too late Steve. By your own admission, yours are already removed!! lol

Now that that joke is in your heads, go back and reread this thread. You'll have the same look on your face the second time around that I did the first time around.

I'm back... again.. but I say remove the little booger. I removed mine and their was no difference wahtsoever... reason being the friggin thing was clogged up, so it was doing NO GOOD whatsoever... now I could have cleaned it up and reinstalled it but it looks so much better with those freaking hoses and pipes out of the way... So I say down with the trees! Down with the environment! Lets joint he government and the rest of the world in taking society down a notch! Lets allow the world to go to hell in a handbasket! I say to you... why not?

in all actuality I like the environment and the trees....

Basically, I decided that on a bike that's going on 8 years old, it's one of those things that will mostly add complication to increasingly frequent maintenance and parts replacement.

I did the "poor man's" version, whereby I simply removed the valve/pump and looped two of the four hoses over to the remaining nipples. Plugged the one vacuum line with a small bolt and a cable tie. Didn't bother with the airbox hole. Worked like a charm. Cost: $0.00. No more popping on decel.

The cold hard facts are that there's absolutely no performance to be gained by doing it, and the weight savings is negligible. It's mostly done to act rebellious, I think, and stick it to the "tree huggers". Honestly, we all should be tree huggers.
Hey Clint,

The air box hole is on the back side of the air filter, so that your carbs will get unfiltered air. Just to let you know.
