The single cylinder S40/ Savage is a good, solid bike. Nothing spectacular, but a good, reliable, mild-mannered bike to start out on that is large enough to carry an adult without looking like a toy. They vibrate a lot more than a v-twin, and they are rather small compared to most cruisers, so most people who get them want a bigger bike in a year or two. Save yourself a bunch of money and get a used Savage (same bike pre-2005 name change) and pass it on to another new rider next season when you are ready for a new S50, M50, or larger cruiser.
