The best thing that I have found is NEVR DULL and lots of patience and elbow grease. I often get some rubber from my boots on the pipe when I go to put down the main stand, and use the NEVR DULL as soon as the pipe has cooled down.
BTW, never cover the bike when it's hot! Not only will it melt the cover, but it's also not good for the engine...
