Reminds me of a seat-puckering I received one fine Saturday morning. I was heading east (into the sun) on an unfamiliar road in Fayette county (it's called Salem road . . . some things you don't forget). I was probably making 60-70 I'd guess, when I suddenly sense that my wheels have encountered something really mushy . . . and it ain't letting up. A split second later, I pass under a tree and the shadow allows me about a 2/3rds of a second glance at what was going on. I was in what had to have been 3-4" of gravel. Nice.

I was still very green at the time, so to say I was scared would be an understatement. Remembering the very little that I know about traction and stuff, I let off the throttle and started gently applying the rear brake. Man, I'd bet it took me 1/4 mile to come to a stop. Then, I had to duck-walk the bike through a U-turn (it was a narrow country road) to turn around (not an easy feat).

As I'm ever-so-gently trying to ride out of this gravel pit . . . a punk in a Honda Civic, with (you guessed it) a piece of 24" corrogated pipe for a muffler comes flying by about 50 mph, tossing gravel, upsetting dust and @#$%.
