That depends on your/his definition of whats enough power.

Can the bike handle it? of course it can, I can ride 2 up with 350+ lbs on the bike all day long. Does it suffer in response? Yes of course it does, its by no means painfully lacking..but its definately evident compared to when im by myself with no gear.

So to answer your question directly, the m50 can handle your friend without a doubt.

If he's a new rider, 800cc will be enough to start, he will be happy and enjoy its low end torque.
