Default Debaffle Help

I need some advice from those that have debaffled. I have rendered my stock pipes worthless since they are scratched up, so I want to give debaffeling a shot till I save up to get some aftermarkets. I watched that video in the turorial sticky, but have been told that is the extreme. Is there baby steps I can take? Maybe just drill a few holes, or just remove the center ring??? I am also worried about losing torque and back firing. I know it is probably going to happen regardless, but it seems common sence that it will occur more if you completely removed the baffles compared to something smaller I can try. Thanks in advance for your advice.
