echo tlwisner: 2-4 business days to get a tech there is unacceptable, especially in a population center like DC. Last accident I had to deal with (knock knock) was a little over 8 years ago... my wife was sideswiped (missed bing hit head on by about 4 inches) by a 90 year old man who 'fell asleep' at the wheel. (not to start up THAT discussion again ) This was before AL had mandatory liability, btw. He had insurance, but apparently his son went directly to the carrier and cancelled the policy... probably because the he and the rest of the family were on the same policy. At the time I had our cages insured with Progressive.

Progressive had an adjuster on site within 2 HOURS. 120 f#*king minutes, dude. And I live in an area where they have to pipe in friggin' daylight!! Granted, he did try and undercut some of the damages; I told him so and he said take it to whatever shop I wanted and have them call him about additional expenses. I did, they did, and Progressive paid up full. And no, my rates didn't jack up. Only reason I changed the carrier on my cars was to get the discount on my homeowner's insurance. My bikes still insured by Progressive.

I can understand them wanting to see the damaged equipment. I would try and arrange for the guy that's coming to look at the bike to see the equipment first hand, but tell them you want it back... for sentimental reasons or something Worth a shot, anyway.
