last year I purchaced a new left over 2003 Suzuki DRZ400S for $4395, have 5K miles, no problems, my suggestion is if you're planning some long road trips, this is the wrong bike, but if you're planning to do mostly off roading, its the best bike you can get, the bike isnt comfortable for long, high speed road trips, it is more than capable of going 90 mph, but ur butt will be sore and you will be worn out physically after about 1 hour of non stop road riding. This bike is designed for short road trips just to get somewhere u can ride it off road. If you're planning on doing more road trips, get the DR650, but you can't beat the 650 off road like you can beat the DRZ400, one good thing about the DRZ400 if you dump it, its light enough to pick up, with the DR650 you are going to need help getting it back up. You can ride the DRZ400S just like any motocross bike, jumps, hill climbs, keep up and even pass the best MX bikes, can't do that on the DR650. Im finding myself doing more street riding now, and was thinking about trading it in on a street bike, but my dealer only wants to give me $3K for it. My friends have street bikes and they don't want me to tag along cause of my bike, i can keep up with them, but they are embarressed to be seen with my bike, can't pick up hot babes with my bike, need a Harley to do that.
