Default First bike, new member, stumped

Finally bought my first bike about two months ago. My roomate and I had been talking about picking a couple up for years now. I was at a carshow swap meet and someone had a 1990 Kawasaki Ninja 600. Didnt have me endorcement and hadn't riden before so a buddy of mine drove it home for me.

Got an great price on the bike, only $700. Of course I expected to have some issues but I've only put about 200 miles on in the time ive had it. It has spent the rest of its time in my ownership in the shop, or in my dad's or my own garage.

Took it out for my first ride with my roomate. We put a few miles on and my bike quits and wont start again. Roomate heads home to get the truck cause its getting dark. I try to start the bike several time with no out come. Motor turns over but does not fire. After about a half hour, i get it started and its running great. This happens two more time and then I brought it to a local shop.

They cleaned the carbs, flushed the tank, and put tires on it. Got it back and took it for a ride and it quit again. And again I couldn't get it started for a half hour or better after it would quit. Took it back to the shop. They kept it for another two weeks but hardly worked on it so I came and took it back.

While in my garage buddies and I found some burnt wires at the voltage regulator. So we replaced the bad wires, voltage regulator, and stator. After those changes it still quits and cant start it. And now it either hardly idles or idles at 3,000 rpm.

Go out to my dad's place and we put in new plugs, find some questionable plug wire connections and a small vaccuum leak on gas valve. Now we have a smooth and good rpm at idle, about 1,800. We also find more burnt wires on the pulse coil. While trouble shooting, I forgot to bolt the coild back on and it fell off into its cover and now my tach doesnt work. Got a new coil and rotor installed. Now the bike runs smooth but has not power. I takes nearly a quarter mile to reach 55 mph and its a lot of throttle to hold it.

Thinking its maybe loosing fuel we riged the valve to allow gas all the time rather than just when there is vaccuum. This didnt change anything other than hopefully eliminate fuel selivery as a problem.

I am stumped and have no idea where to turn any more. Thats why im here to hopefully get some fresh ideas.

I also posted the same info in the paddock for an introduction.
