I think a lot of that is wind resistance. With the forward controls where they are at higher speeds the wind is not friendly. I have found that hooking my heel over the peg helped a lot. I would have to imagine that higher highway pegs would help a ton by straightening the leg/lifting it more from wind resistance. More mid mounted pegs the wind pushes the leg more into the peg, instead of forwards where we are pushing our legs into the peg to stay in place. At slower speeds it's totally comfortable, where we aren't pushing so back against the wind so much. That's my take....
