A very sobering reminder. About 80% of the riders I see out on the road are only wearing a helmet due to California law, the rest of their gear includes tank tops, shorts, tennis shoes, etc...
Due to the cost of gas many folks are turning towards two wheel transportation trying to save a buck but are clueless to what the consequences may be if and when they go down, others just plain out think only uncool wusses wear gear. Sure it feels good to feel the wind on your body but take road rash for example... Cleaning the dirt and gravel in the E.R. from areas that used to be covered with flesh, then the long, painful healing process. It is then too late when you realize wearing protective gear isn't all that uncool after all.
During the summer months there are ways to stay cool to a certain extent but a little discomfort sure beats what the other options may be.
It is always smart to wear ATGATT and be aware to your surroundings... And enjoy the ride!!!
