Default Starting Bike with no Headers

Hey guys,
This is probably the wrong time to ask the question since the damage may already be done but here goes. I had taken the carbs off my 94 GSX 600 to clean them because of fuel problem. Once I had done that I decide to also take my exhaust system off, sand it down and repaint it. While the new paint was drying I decided to put the carbs back on and reattach everything. The paint was still wet on the exhaust so I decided to see if the bike would start without it. I tried to start it a couple of times but nothing really happened. The bike just cranked over and didn't fire. Once the paint on the exhaust was dry I put it back on and tried to start the bike, now I get nothing. The bike won't even crank over. Did I just totally screw up my bike by trying to start it without the exhaust on? And if I did, how do I undo it?

Thanks for the help.
