Reason being is oil for cars is made for engines only, the transmission is dry. For bikes the tranny gears are cooled in the engine oil, therefore the oil is blended differant to take care of the gears to. You need motorcycle oil in there or bad things will happen |
Actually it's not time to panic. Depending on the weight of the oil he used, it could be just fine. If automotive 10w-40 was used, it needs to be changed again at about 1500 miles. The shearing of the transmission gears breaks down the viscosity, so it offers little protection after 1500 miles. If 20w-50 was used, you could probably stretch the 3500-4000 mile interval. If anything was used that says "energy conserving", that would need to be drained immediately. It can cause the clutch to slip.
