Default Still running rich

ok...i need a little advice here...i got that rm 250 and it is still running rich. at the moment i am running 40:1 fuel. a couple of my buddies told me go to 50:1. i know this would help but does anyone know how much it will? i think i have the carb leaned out. i installed the boysen rad valves on it. i went down from 158 stock main to a 155. i bumped the clip on the needle to #2 position and left everything else alone. pilot is still stock 42 and the power jet is 55..stock.
which brings me to another question. does the power jet control fuel on start ups? and if so could i use a bigger power jet because it wont start cold for a while. starts in one kick when hot. its not getting gas on start up. plug is dry after kicking it over with the choke on after many kicks. finally after kicking it and popping it it runs. and spark is fine. i have strong blue spark on my spark tester. any ideas. thanks guys
