The way I do it is (MAKING SURE THAT THE SURFACE IS COOL TO THE TOUCH):
1. Spray the WD40 on the sticker and let it set for about 5 min. (making sure that it's contained and not dripping; make a little circle with a rag or something).
2. Then heat the sticker up with a hair dryer for about 3 minutes (may be shorter or longer depending on the hair dryer). You want the sticker to be pliable (all the while loosening the glue) but not so hot that you can't work with it.
3. Peel up the corner of the sticker and work it slowly from the top left corner to the bottom right corner (I have found that this works best for me). Try and have enough patience to get the sticker off in one piece. If you get stuck in one spot, pause, spritz the spot where you got stuck with a little WD (a little goes a long way), work it in with your finger and continue.
4. Once you have the sticker removed, wipe off residual WD40 with a clean dry cloth (I like to use microfiber).
5. If there is still some of the glue on the tank (or rear fender if you are doing the YAMAHA sticker as well), spray a little WD40 on the spot, let it set for about a minute, and work it off with the cloth.
This is the method that works best for me. I am sure that there are other methods but I find that this ensures that the paint remains 100%.
