Forgive me for being so obtuse.
I guess publications like the NY Times have got it wrong then.
Out of the Jungle -- In El Salvador, Rebels With A New Cause. - New York Times
I guess the whole internet is wrong about jungles in El Salvador too.
Sorry. Just trying to help.
Sorry for being so obtuse by making a generalized statement about El Salvador being close to the equator. Because...hmmn...I look at a map, and gee, it is relatively close. Closer than anyone of us is. Maybe not a few miles away, but pretty darned close in the larger scale of things. So again, I apologize for being so obtuse as to suggest something so ridiculous. Which also implies, that being near the equator (relatively) the country would have a tropical climate (again...a generalization culled from a random sampling of internet inquiries...such as the CIA World Factbook). That said, I apologize for using a general term such as "jungle rot"....which is again, a generalized term (but affects natural and man made fibers (in addition to human flesh) and materials in tropical climates), but my implied meaning was correctly picked up by RowdyRed to mean maybe a mold or mildew problem with the leather? Upon showing us your pics, I agree with the others, that it may be a dye problem. Again, I apologize for just trying to be helpful, and using generalizations. My mistake.
