I use my high beam during the day, but that's no substitute for paying close attention and expecting people to be stupid. Yesterday while sitting on my bike at a red light I watched a guy chatting on his phone pull his Mercedes SUV right out in front of a big red fire engine that had it's horn blowing, siren on, and lots of flashing red lights.

At night or in less than good visibility, I wear one of those flourescent green vests with reflective stripes. My helmet color of choice is white. I wish my bike was a lighter color, but I did add driving lights on the front.
