The Kat is a really good bike for what it is. It is considered a sport tourer. It is comfortable and actually handles well and predictably. I have not ridden one of the last updates. I had a 600 in the early 90's for a while and have had friends that had them since.

I hate people who criticize what others ride. I rode an '05 Honda Super Hawk until it got stolen four months ago. I had a few people ask, "why didn't you get a GSXRYZFZX-1,000,000?" I loved that bike. I like it more than my GSXR750. (Which when I ride I get the "why didn't you get the 1000" question.) Ride what makes you happy. Don't worry about impressing anyone other than yourself. Besides, most of the time when people criticize what other people ride, they can't ride for sh*@ anyway.
