Each company seems to be different. When I was shopping for insurance for my Bee, I nearly croaked at the prices. When I asked the reason for the price being three times what my Glide was, I was told because it had a 'Busa engine.

So, as it turns out, the glide with a greater displacement was massively cheaper than the Bee. I even went so far as to talk to the actuarial dept. to argue that the Bee was NOT a sportbike. They said that they were rating it as one as they had no experience with it so they were going to assume it was a Hayabusa because of the engine.

Progressive wanted $3600 a year!!!!! A couple of others were around $3000. Finally, Geico, came up with the best rate at around $2200!!

Can you imagine that at age 52, recent MSF, no accidents (well not in the last 30yrs anyway) and no tickets???

The moral of the story is that the actuaries tend to use statistics on accident rates and bike class more than just raw engine displacement. Even if you just smell like a large sportbike they are going to cream you.

That being said, getting it added onto existing auto policies seems to save a lot of money. I wasn't able to do this so I have had to eat this lousy insurance rate for at least this year (Geico said they would re-rate it after they have a year of experience with the Bee).
