me hitting the horn is pure instinct. i know exactly where it is (very near my left thumb) and just go for it. i am always watching my mirrors, i cannot recall the last time i 'went looking for a way out'. whether in my hobby tuner car or on my now daily driver bike.
if you don't know, immediately, where your 'out' is, then you are only barely more awake than the driver that is about to run you over.
i was 100 miles away from home last Friday, with steady 30mph cross winds, gusting to 50+ and there was not one time on that ride that i got anywhere close to a panic situation, even with Ford Exploders and minivans getting pushed well into my lane. tractor trailers swerving around in the next lane beyond traffic. (yes, i took the left). i liken riding a motorcycle on the streets to take just as much focus and foresight to do so safely as driving on an unknown road with 4 inches of snow on it, a blizzard coming down and your summer tires are almost bald.
