Default Driving route advice - New Jersey

Fellow M50 owners,
This is way off topic, but in a forum with so many helpful folks perhaps someone could help me with some driving advice through NJ.
I'm heading south in a couple of weeks from northern NY and travel through NJ. I know that the time of day matters much in terms of traffic difficulties and congestion. I'll be hitting the NJ border on a Thursday at about 6 or 6:30PM.
My usual route is NY thruway to route 17, to the garden state parkway, to the NJ turnpike and then down to the delaware memorial bridge.
I've been in dad traffic situations at times on both the GSP and the tpk, but I'm not sure if this time of day is going to be okay or not.
Would an alternate route be better? What about something like 287 to 206 to 295 or something similar?
Thanks for anything you can share. Only a few more months and we can get the bike out!
Thanks,
Dave
