The problem isn't with carrying the weight (though most vehicles will sag terribly with it hanging out like that), but with the twisting forces. You can't safely put that much torque on a 2x2 tube.

I can't find any serious problems with the trailer, though I can't imagine where I'd use it. For emergencies, maybe.
