I was coming home from work the other day heading west, and as I approached a stoplight controlled intersection where I turn right, the light turned red for me.
The street I was coming up to is a 4 lane that has a left turn lane for cars coming from my right (heading south), it's a busy street and there is almost always cars waiting to turn left.
I looked up, and there were indeed cars waiting to turn left, this means the cars coming from my left (heading north) will not get the green till the left turn signal ends for the cars across from them.
My intention was to make a quick stop, than make my right turn to the north before that happened.
As I said, this is my route home from work and this exact same scenario has happened many time before.
Well on this occasion, the cars in the left turn lane traveling south, must have for some reason not tripped the left turn signal, and the cars coming from my left (traveling north) got the green sooner than I expected.
I was just about to go without double checking, when that little voice in my head said, "don't be a dumb a$$, check again". I learned a long time ago to listen to that little voice, if I hadn't this time, I would have been a hood ornament.
