Default Tis a sad sad day.

Well I've had a pretty bad week. Friday I dropped the bike in my parking lot, was going about 2mph coasting into the parking spot, I turned to back in and the rear tire hit some sand. It went right out from under me, it was pretty gentle drop I'm all right but I broke the front brake lever and scratched the fairing. No biggie, the fairings are already tore up and a brake lever is easy to replace. So I cancelled my plans to head down to Denver or take a ride up in the mountains this weekend. I rode to the store Saturday to get a new lever. They wanted $45 for an OEM handle!!! I ordered an aftermarket instead. So I took the bike home and parked it right in front of my apartment around 7:30pm. Fast forward to noon today and I hear a knock on my door. I answer and a police officer is standing there. "Mr. Reynolds?" I say yes. "Do you know where your motorcycle is?".... I look behind him and it's gone. Sometime last night someone stole it. Some joggers called the police this morning, there was a bike sitting under a tree by the trail about half a mile from my apartment. After telling me what happened and making sure that I hadn't left it there in a drunken stupor he gave me a ride over to where it was. When he said it was under a tree all I could picture was it's wrapped around a tree trunk, especially because the front brake doesn't work. We got down there and it was sitting under some branches upright with no apparent major damage. We pushed it up onto the trail and tried to see if it would turn on. The ignition is a little tore up, looks like they tried to hammer it, and the plug coming out of the ignition was unplugged. Looks like they hotwired it. I get the key in but nothing comes on. Turns out they blew the mainline fuse. Other damage I could find includes a broken air box cover, some new scratches on the right side fairing, a rattling engine mount bolt, some new scratches on the engine guards, one of my mirrors was loose and turned around but nothing broken, and the right side marker punched through the fairing a little. I replaced the fuse and it started up all right. Doesn't feel like anythings bent, handle bars are straight, and it ran fine for the half mile back home. I'm gonna do a more detailed inspection tomorrow and decide whether or not i'm going to file a claim or not. I'm happy that I have it back and there's nothing seriously wrong with it, but fairly annoyed with it all Sorry for the book, just thought I'd share the story. Here's some pics of the damage, arrows point to new damage. For some reason last night I just didn't put the lock on my brake rotor, i'm definately doing that every time now. And I bought a cable lock just to annoy would-be thiefs even more.
