This is completely normal for the Savage. Nothing to worry about. I also have an '04. When I first got it I had the "shutdown puff" and no deceleration backfiring. Now after 1800 miles I have both. You can get rid of it with a new exhaust, jetting etc... but it is not necessary. For more info, see the topic below Suzuki Savage Backfiring?!
