my strategy is to use a bit of left-over oil from the last change to start the current change. the bike takes around 3.8L and the jug is 4.0L (roughly), so i tend to get a bit left over. that left-over is the first bit of oil that i pour in the next time i do the oil change, so that it doesn't "sit" for long. obviously, from the new jug, there will be a bit more left-over, and i'll use that up the next time. and so on...
