While driving home from my birthday gig last night, we crest a hill and see a bunch of people slamming on brakes. My designated driver commented on it. I saw some plastic in the road. Then she commented on the shoe in the road. I immediately thought, "this is not good". She is an EMT, and said something in the right lane looked "meaty".
I couldn't see very well, so I opened the door as we were crawling along. A right arm severed at the elbow was lying about 2-feet from me as we passed by. I shut the door as we snaked passed the still uncovered body. Wearing dressy "club" clothes, the twisted and contorted body was bent in ways a human should not be. Kid had on a helmet. At least they will be able to have an open casket funeral. The "ick" drag marks were at least 100-feet long. The bike was another 50-yards down the road, headlamp still on. There was no plastic left on it. Kawasaki something or other.

Motorcycle wreck
Witnesses say the guy was riding too fast, whipping in and out of traffic. He hit a retaining wall and was dead before medical personnel were at the scene. We got there less than 5-minutes after it happened.
That road is dangerous as hell in a car, let alone a bike. A lot of construction in that area. I jokingly call it "dodging the drunks" when I drive through there after playing gigs a couple of times a week. It is bad. Don't know if the guy was drunk or not, but irresponsible riding behavior ended his life. Whether better gear would have saved his life or not I couldn't tell, but at least his body would have been in one piece.
Add to this a good friend of mine's nephew was killed Thursday morning on his bike by an under-age drunk driver makes this a crappy motorcycling week here in SA.
