When I had my 10,000 Klm ( 6000mile) service done , actually the bike had 12,000 Klm's , I asked the dealer about valves , he said the first valve check was at 20,000Klm's and showed me Yamaha's spec sheet , while I was there I watched while he done a compression test and put on a digital stethascope , there was no change in compression between the two cylinders and and there was no abnormal ticking or valve noise , I dont have any surging or engine issues at all , or clutch noise etc .
For the first couple of thousand klm's , I ran my bike in as per dealers instructions .......just take it easy .....and also as I have done with all my previous purchases bikes , cars , trucks , ride on lawn mowers , etc , that is not to load them up or labour the engine , not to race the engine , change engine oil and filter at regular intervals ..........so all in all , I am very happy with this well behaved cycle , because of there rarity out here in Australia , I get stopped a lot by people asking about the bike ..........cheers .....Steve in Oz
PS .....I notice you guys ( America ) are getting valves checked at every 4000 miles , i dont know why the difference , as I have read the dealers spec sheet from the manufacturer , it says first valve adjustment at 20,000 Klm's then 40,000 Klm's and so on for us here
