I got it from Dennis Kirk - it is a Signal Dynamics Diamond Star. The sensor has only two wires and it looks like an LED. I have been away from my computer (and my bike) for some time now and I just went out and fired it up (to go to work). Of course, I WANT the thing to modulate now (it is day time) but when I started it up, the headlight stayed on solid (the bike was under my carport roof) then began to modulate when I backed the bike out into the sunlight. So, I guess it is working again.
The only thing I can imagine is that I got the sensor too wet (I had washed the bike an hour or so before) but this has never happened before.
Does anyone have any suggestions for sealing this sensor? When I installed the modulator I had to mount the sensor out in the open to make the thing work properly. When I tried to mount it in a concealed location, the modulation would stop in the slightest amount of shade. Unfortunately, proper operation requires that my sensor stay out in the open where it is more susceptible to water / road debris. I know I will eventually have to replace it, even though it seems I am out of the woods right now. I was looking in my Mouser electronics catalog and they have two-wire photosensors that look exactly like mine. I'd be willing to get one to see if it worked (because they're only 50 cents) but for now I guess I should focus on sealing the one I have.
