I think it's pretty obvious that most riders buy a bike for showing off purposes, whether it's a chrome laden cruiser or a GSX-R for flash potential. Hell why would anybody need more than a GSX-R 600 for riding on the streets. It's not for safety or reliability issues, it's mostly for flash.

As for paying more to get a "Name" well I don't think it's really all that more expensive in the long run because the resale value will be way higher on a Ducati, BMW or Harley.
