cooling fans are mostly useless when you're riding at more than 25mph or so, since the airflow from the road speed is more than what a fan could possibly muster up. if the fans are coming on when you're riding, there's a problem somewhere that you should look at. maybe the bike overall is running too lean, causing the engine temp to get rather high, and thus forcing the fans to kick in even at speed? or the temp sensor is hosed...
