Yeah, my boyfriend tried to teach me how to ride...it doesn't work. I ended up dropping it in the parking lot the first day as well and got frustrated with him because I was just trying to learn to balance on the thing going in a straight line and he was trying to make me start swerving around pop bottles, etc!!
In Proficient Motorcycling, David Hough says that the worst riders are the ones that were taught by a family member or friend. Best thing I ever did: Not ride my bike on the street until I took the class. I would ONLY ride in a cemetery by my house.
