Default Clutch Slipping . . . Oh Crap! Help!

OK, I am trying not to flip out so please bring on the wisdom, experience and support. My 2005 M50 has about 12,000 miles (yes, that's a lot) and tonight I felt the clutch slip. I tried it again and I got it to slip again by getting on it in fifth and fourth gears at higher speeds. I shift reasonably well and have not otherwise given her cause to fail, that I know of.

I have only had her for 11 months so she is in warranty. But this would be a wear issue I assume, so not covered.

Could this be a defect (as opposed to wear issue) and therefore covered by warranty? If not, what should it cost to for the dealer to replace the clutch pad, assuming I'm right? Is the clutch adjustable somehow? Might I be able to avoid a repair some way other than not riding so much?

I love this bike and I am bummed she is doing this, but if this is just an expected wear issue I will just deal with it.

But at 12,000 miles it seems like way too soon for the clutch to go.

If anyone has anything they can share on this I will be very grateful. Thanks.
