When a pilot pushes the cyclic forward in order to tilt the helicopter rotor disk forward, the mechanism along the mast actually pulls down on disk 90 degrees from the desired direction of tilt. On most heliciopters that means on the right side.

The rotor blades tilt forward 90 degrees from the input force due to gyroscopic precession.
