Default What's So Great About the Motorcycle Community?

When I'm asked that question I say the fact that it is a Community that is what makes it great. We are a family, we share the good time and the bad times. When one of us needs help the others are right there to lend a hand. This forum is a fine example of that. Numerous members here have been helped by their fellow members.

I had the opportunity to see this “Community” in action again this weekend at a benefit race. Glen McNamara #75n is a long standing member of the Motorcycle Community. He has done much for racing and racers in his life. He is a member of the AMA’s VDTRA (Veteran Dirt Track Racers Association) and holds AMA sanctioned events at the Waco Eagles Motorcycle Club two or three times a year. He and his family do all the prep work and maintenance on the track as well as scoring, announcing, flagging, rider registration, collecting entry fees, and anything else that needs done. They volunteer their time and effort for Flattrack racing.

Earlier this year Glen was diagnosed with cancer. As most of you know the cost to treat this disease is astronomical so the other members of the VDTRA got together to raise money to help defer the cost. Many members donated items to be auctioned off including two motorcycles (a 50cc Pit Bike and a 250cc Flattracker), Chris Carr AMA #1 Flattracker donated a helmet of his (signed), and many others donated parts, riding gear, and other items. The Waco Eagles donated the Track; Riders donated the entry and gate fees, other members of the Community donated food and there time to prepare it. Some donated cash to be raffled off for prizes. Racers came from all over the country to help out and to race at this event. Suzuki and Husqvarna both sent factory teams out to support this event as well.

When it was all said and done in one day (not including the many days of preparation) over $15,000 was raised to help with the McNamara’s medical expenses. The Motorcycle Community is one of the few groups of people that still holds to the value of helping out its fellow men and women. It is a great feeling to know that I am part the Motorcycle Community.

How is Glen doing you ask? I think this should answer your question. (Taken this weekend)
