As I've said many times, I rode a 50ccm roller for 10 years, then stepped up to a 125ccm for two years. After 12 years (and about 15,000 miles), I felt I was ready for a big bike.

My GSX has more power than I'll ever need. I think 100 horsepower is enough for anyone. I see no practical reason for the Kawasaki ZZR1200 or ZZR1400, Yamaha R1 or Suzuki GSX-R series, other than for track racing. But, that is just my opinion.

Buying a motorcycle is a complex decision, and is influenced by more than common sense. Hormones (testostorone) affects the emotions, which influence the decision making process. A super-sportler just screams "I'm faster than you", regardless of how much experience the rider has. Because of this, it also attracts more attention from young women, another influence in the decision making process.

As long as these bikes are affordable by young people, and there are parents out there with more money then sense, young guys will continue to splatter themselves on the streets. If they were to price the race replicas starting at $20,000, it would hurt profits, but probably save lives.

Or they should require full insurance coverage for all riders for the first 2 years. If you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the bike.
