(have almost 19,000 miles on my original chain and sprockets and they look to have plenty of life left yet). . . . I clean mine monthly and lube it hot after any ride longer than 200 miles.
btw I was kidding about the bike being stable when it isn't moving as I suspect the center stand doesn't really help stability when you are riding.
