Well rode w/ my brother and his brother-in-law on a couples day out ride (took the wives out to eat). Had fun even though they ride at 80 MPH all the time. I thought I was doing good on the mileage when I topped off after 105 miles w/ 87 octane and only put in 2.75 gals. then I calculated the mileage and came up w/ 38MPG. Well every tank is getting worse on the 87 octane but in the bikes defense I was running alot faster today and in a pretty good wind but it was to my back and side most of the way. So anyway to make a long story short. I get my bro. and his brother-in-law to come back to the house and help to install the Straightshots after the bike cools off for a couple of hours. When we pull off the stock pipes we all notice that they are full of black heavy soot and smell heavy of gas, also the tailpipe was full of soot. Anyone that did their own pipe install notice this too ??? So my question is could this be the answer to the lousy gas mileage. Was the bike set up from the factory running rich and is this normal ??? Are they suppose to check this at the dealer before it is delivered to the customer and is this suppose to be checked at the 600 mile service ??? On a side note the Straightshots look and sound pretty damn good !!! I got the TFI unit coming in sometime next week along w/ a K&N air filter so we'll see how that goes, who knows if it is running pig rich I may not even need the TFI. Oh also does anyone think that running 93 from the start made it soot up that bad ???
